The Indian caste system

Posted by admin

One of my friends who recently told his dad that he loves a girl and wants to marry her had to face his dad’s wrath. WHY?

Because she did not belong to his caste!!!

BAFFLING!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and get this! His father is a senior manager at a large multinational company, well educated with a couple of major degrees, earning thousands of dollars every month. When my friend asked why caste was a problem, his father replied, “Now if you marry a girl from another caste.” How can I show my face in our community?”

UNKNOWN AGAIN!!!!!!

Two things I want to say to that dad:

1) Your face is your butt anyway, so don’t bother showing it.

2) Where did your education go? What about your sixth standard lesson in social studies that taught you that caste is a social evil?

The previous episode got me thinking about the state of things in India and the caste system in general. If you know about the caste system, then read this article, as I want to share with you a means of combating this evil. If you don’t know, please read this article as well, this will keep you away from the evil system and help educate others.

THE CASTE SYSTEM

This is a social evil, born to divide human beings. The system that has descended for centuries has caused nothing but harm to human beings. How did this system start? Why do people still follow him? How can you fight this? These are some of the questions that should be asked

India is a great land, a land full of the wisest people who have attained full enlightenment and there are also people who still believe in castes, rituals, ceremonies, etc.

ORIGIN OF THE CASTE SYSTEM

The concept of caste has been around for a long time. Ancient India was blessed with many scholars and saints. Scholars who studied the outer world and the inner world (nature of the human mind). These scholars through meditation and concentration, understood their own minds and understood some basic realities of the laws of nature and the human psyche. In ancient India, this was the education given from teacher to student and this tradition was passed down for many years.

What the ancient saints discovered was that there were four types of people that existed in this world. This categorization was based on how human beings had different mindsets and how that would place them in the social order. The caste system was nothing more than a categorization of the social order in society. Based on this understanding, human beings were categorized (not divided). These are the four types of human beings.

1) Brahmin: A brahmin is a learned man, who is well versed in the knowledge and wisdom of life. People studied the ancient scriptures like the Vedas and then passed this knowledge on to others. The Brahmins pledged to attain the highest spiritual knowledge.

2) Kshatriyas: A Kshatriya is someone who defends the land and the kingdom. These were people who took soldier jobs in the old days. These people were warriors who protected society.

3) Vaishyas: These were business class. cattle raising, trade in goods and services, etc. Trade and commerce were mainly handled by this class.

4) Shudras: Shudras are service providers. Plumbers, mechanics, etc. These people mostly do the daily labor jobs. People in this category have the job of serving all three categories above.

This is the caste system, the categorization of human beings based on social order. Even in today’s society, any human being participating in a social order can be classified into any of these four classes.

HOW DID THIS BECOME BAD

This concept of the caste system soon became distorted when the system became associated with the birth and not the occupation of an individual. Now the son of a brahmin became a brahmin regardless of his wisdom. A son of a Vaishya became a Vaishya even if he was wiser than anyone in this world.

Added to this, the differentiation intensified as people began to create a space for themselves and began to treat themselves as much more privileged than the other classes. They did this to gain status in society and to safeguard their place in society. The Brahmins declared the Vedas (ancient scriptures that supposedly contain divine knowledge) full rights and ensured that only one Brahmin would have access to them and not others. They also considered the birth of a human being in the brahmin clan to be noble and that of a Shudra to be low.

Soon the idea of facts deciding the class of individuals was forgotten and birth deciding class became a reality. This is how a simple explanation of social order went bad. Now your job/occupation was decided by birth and not by your deeds. A shudra was not allowed to undertake activities related to learning, defense or trade. The differentiation began and now the society began to divide.

EVIL PREVAILS IN INDIA TODAY

India today is still sick with this disease, called the caste system. I must add that although not as bad as in the old days, India still suffers from this. Various people like Swami Vivekananda (great guy, read about him), Mahatma Gandhi, etc. they have fought with all their strength, the evil has not yet been extinguished. Even today, marriages are arranged according to caste, one can only marry someone who belongs to his own caste. One will vote for a candidate simply because he belongs to his own caste. The most disturbing aspect of this is that it is not just uneducated people who participate in this stupidity. It is even the educated part of the crowd that is so guilty. Ex: my friends dad

Think about this when your near or loved one has an emergency you look for the best doctor to treat them, you never look for a doctor of your caste. Well apply this everywhere in life. Differentiating a human being in caste is ridiculous.

Why feel different? The human being is the human being. God does not differentiate, only humans do. Every human being is simply you. Born (no matter who), he will eventually die. How does caste matter in this cycle?

HOW WE FIGHT IT

I am not one of those who like to point fingers at the government to change things. Yes, the government has a duty to introduce reforms, but the duty of each individual to introduce change is the same.

Stop keeping quiet when an elder in your family talks nonsense about marrying someone from your caste, because he feels his ego is at stake. Stop voting for someone just because he belongs to your caste. Vote based on eligibility. Face him wherever you face him in his life.

Fight it!!! It may not be on a macro level, but at least on a family level (micro level) you need to take responsibility and make sure people get rid of this nonsense. Of course, your dad, mom, or grandpa may not like it. But realize that you are defending a greater purpose, to kill an evil that has ruined many lives. So be firm and don’t give up. When we change ourselves for the better, you will become an example to others and they too will be inspired to change for the better.

Now, once you firmly believe that this evil must be killed, have lots of sex and pass on your smart genes.

Take a stand. I am in favor of killing this evil. You?
