The Peloponnese: a real estate hotspot

Posted by admin

The Peloponnese has recently become a popular spot for buying property abroad. Although prices are rising here, property prices remain reasonable in the Messini, Mani and Kalamata areas in the south of the peninsula. Foreigners are buying properties to sell at bargain prices. There are still plenty of old stone houses for sale, full of charm and character in traditional Greek villages to choose from. The Peloponnese is an ideal place to relax and experience the rapidly disappearing rural life in Greece.

One of the main advantages of the Peloponnese is that it is easily accessible all year round from Athens. With the new motorway the journey takes only three and a half hours. Athens, the capital of Greece, is home to more than a third of the country’s population and is rich in culture with museums, concerts, shops, restaurants and nightlife. Many wealthy Athenians choose Messinia as the place to buy second homes where they can relax and enjoy the slower pace of village life.

Kalamata has its own airport which is open from May to October. The city of Kalamata, with all the usual facilities, is located at the head of Messini Bay, between the Messini and Mani peninsulas, making it an ideal area to buy a holiday home. Living on the mainland means that there are many interesting places to see and many nearby islands to explore. You will never run out of places to visit.

The Peloponnese is a wide, hand-shaped peninsula that gives rise to centuries of human achievement amidst diverse natural beauty. It contains most of the best archaeological sites in Greece, including Olympia, Mycenae, ancient Messini, Corinth, Mystra, and Epidavros. It also offers some of the most stunning scenery, from the arid crags of the Mani and the gentler contours of Messinia to the forested peaks and flower-covered pastures of Arcadia. There is an abundance of spectacular mountains with fertile plains between them where Mediterranean vegetation grows, olive trees, vines, cereals and fruit trees.

The Messinia region boasts some of the best and cleanest beaches in all of Greece. There is little development and they are completely natural and unspoiled. Even at the height of the summer vacation season, you don’t see more than a handful of people at them. It is an ideal place to relax and take walks. Get off the beaten track to ancient mountain villages and discover the true beauty of the region.

A world apart from islands, beautiful and sparsely populated Peloponnese is a vanishing bastion of Greek village life. The rural towns in this area are beautifully authentic, traditional and scattered. The local villagers are friendly and welcoming, often gifting the new owners with wine and oranges.

Messinia is the place where dreams come true. So it’s no wonder that even though property prices are steadily rising, the Kalamata area is proving to be a favorite with foreigners buying properties for sale at reasonable prices. The number of foreigners buying vacation homes here is increasing every year.
