The history of the Suzuki AN 125 motorcycle

Posted by admin

The Suzuki AN 125 is often confused with the Suzuki Burgman series of superscooters. However, the AN 125 is actually an older model, first made in 1995. Production continued until 1999, with no major variants or special models. A similar Burgman model is currently in production called the Suzuki UH125, also given the designation AN 125.

The 1990s production Suzuki AN 125 was powered by an air-cooled 124cc four-stroke engine. A simple and straightforward single cylinder design, gave this scooter a good 10hp at 8000rpm. This led to some interesting numbers, like a reported 0-60 mph time of under 16 seconds. With a curb weight of 100kg, the AN 125 felt like a much bigger ride than similar 100cc mopeds and scooters. However, the 10-inch wheels kept riders firmly grounded in reality. Braking was quite positive and an advance over previous Suzuki scooters.

Under real driving conditions, the Suzuki engine proved to be a winner, consuming much less gasoline than its competitors. The automatic transmission simplified vehicle control with only one throttle and two brakes required. This allowed younger riders or later students a great opportunity to pick up basic uphill skills. However, in the design department, the AN 125 was definitely part of the package. It resembled most scooter designs of the time; with European style and nude ruffles. Storage was limited to a small dashboard up front and a helmet-sized storage area under the seat.

Passengers in the Suzuki AN 125 got a decent instrument panel, with all key displays and warning LEDs clearly visible. The speedometer was rated up to 110 km/h, although most owners never experienced speeds above 80 mph. Even today, you may never see an AN 125 on the motorway, but you will surely find one in town or at the market.

Suzuki AN 125 (1995 – 99) scooters are still available in second hand bike markets in the UK. A reasonably fast scooter, the AN 125 still has plenty of performance for basic racing duties. You can buy one for a fraction of the price of a similarly powerful 2011 125cc scooter. If a part restoration is required, a trusted parts dealer can find genuine Suzuki parts. With a few extra pounds, you get a ride that is fun, easy to handle and very economical!
