Having a garden is one of the best things to invest your time and effort. It also enhances the curb appeal of your property. However, you should be careful about persistent weeds that grow around your house.

Weeds are obviously a sight to sore eyes and diminish the visual inspiration your property can radiate. Therefore, you need to implement the fastest weed control solution. Before, chemicals were used to get rid of weeds, but these days where more and more people are becoming more environmentally conscious, there are other ways created to control the growth of weeds. In fact, you might find some effective materials in your own closets.

The following are eco-friendly ways to keep weeds at bay:

1. Use table salt to combat weeds. You can sprinkle enough amount of salt into cracks, crevices, paving stones or gaps where weeds usually grow. When the salt melts, it creates an intolerable condition for weeds.

2. Clove oil and other citrus oil products also have the same weed-fighting components as salt, but in a lower concentration. Check the contents as some of the ingredients may have active agents that promote weed growth.

3. Another effective product to prevent weeds is the use of corn gluten meal. Prevents germination and further spread of weeds by blocking root systems for weed development. In addition, it is a more practical product since it not only works as a herbicide but also allows nitrogen to return to the soil or soil and serves as a fertilizer to grow a lusher and greener lawn.

4. You can also use mulch, newspaper, or compost. They can smother weeds when placed on top of garden beds. These should be at least three to four inches thick to most effectively smother weeds. Alternatively, be careful when using compost or mulch, as some types provide an environment in which weeds can survive.

5. One of the best ways to control weeds is to use horticultural vinegar. You can buy it at any store or home and garden center, which are more concentrated and designed to kill weeds and prevent regrowth. This can be achieved by using the roots with a twenty percent concentrated content compared to the five percent found in regular household vinegars.

6. Liquid bleach is also a good way to prevent weed growth. Add two cups of liquid bleach to a gallon garden sprayer to kill weeds. This kills them immediately and has the added benefit of a whitening effect on the pavers, making them look clean.

You can always forego the use of chemicals to control growth and kill weeds. Please note that the chemicals in these products could create health risks as well as the environment. Using natural and organic methods to control weeds is most helpful. If you decide to consider the six methods above, be sure to use each one several weeks apart. This is vital as some components of these elements could destroy the pH balance of the soil, making it uninhabitable even for plants.
