Sanyo is one of the most trusted brands in the world and has made a concerted effort in recent years to become the market leader in the rice cooker industry. The Sanyo ECJ-D55S is a 5-cup rice cooker packed with useful features, but does it measure up to the top names in the rice-cooking game?
It’s almost mandatory to get something with “fuzzy logic” if you’re looking for world-class cuisine. A fuzzy logic cooker can detect the rice and water in the pot and adjust the heat accordingly. That means your rice will be perfect every time you press the Cook button. Normally these ranges are very expensive, but Sanyo manages to do a good job at its price point. And unlike many budget 5-cup cookers, the Sanyo ECJ-D55S will have no problem handling black rice, pink rice, jasmine rice, or anything else you can throw at it. Why else does this kitchen stand out? Versatility. Even other fuzzy logic cookers at this price can’t compete with the sheer variety of cool things Sanyo’s model can do. Whether you just like to experiment in the kitchen or are looking for something that can replace your slow cooker, the ECJ-D55S is more than up to the task.
It’s really easy to use and more importantly, it’s easy to clean. If you’ve ever made something like a beef stew and been totally frustrated by the sticky grease that you have to clean up afterwards, this is the product for you. Just make sure you don’t use any corrosive material in the pot, it’s non-stick! Cleaning is perfectly easy, but almost all Sanyo models have the problem that moisture drips from the lid into a small pool around the pot instead of directly into the container. However, this problem is more annoying than disastrous. Remember how much less you are paying!
Two of my favorite features of this cooker have nothing to do with how much rice it can cook, how quickly, or anything else like that. One is the recipe book. Designed by Martin Yan, this guide will give you plenty of ideas to get you started if you’ve just bought your kitchen, or if you’ve had it for a while and want to update it beyond plain white. Finally, this kitchen looks incredibly sexy. Like everything in the Sanyo line, this is a kitchen that looks amazing in a kitchen cabinet and looks like something your parents might have found at Epcot Center.
If you have a medium-sized family, want amazing rice but don’t want to break the bank, the Sanyo ECJ-D55S is absolutely for you! It doesn’t have every feature ever conceived by the mind of man, but it’s up there, and the rice itself (which should be the, er… meat of your decision) is fantastic.
