Writing laptop reviews might seem like an easy job, but it’s not. You have to do a thorough inspection of the product before you sit down and start writing. I’ve been writing laptop and netbook reviews for a long time and I’ve had a blast doing it. But there was a lot of hard work before I got to this stage in my life. I get a lot of requests about how reviews are written. I am writing about some of the things that I check before writing the article.
display – This is one of the most important parts of a laptop. Netbooks like the HP Mini 5102 and Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell have small screens, while larger laptops like the Alienware have huge screens. The screen has to be sharp and bright. Movies should also look good if you’re buying the laptop for entertainment purposes.
Hardware – Better hardware will drive up the price. Commodities like the HP Mini 5102 and Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell won’t get you any high-end hardware inside. But you have a lot to choose from in high-end laptops. For gamers, there are plenty of graphics cards, and there are laptops with keyboard backlights. High-end hardware takes a lot of time to check as I have to check all the features. The review of a simple netbook is done in no time.
Keyboard – When it comes to business laptops, the first thing people want to know is how good the keyboard is. The most popular keyboard layout on the market right now is the island-style layout found on the HP Mini 5102 and Apple MacBooks. These keyboards provide a good user experience as the buttons are separated from each other thus minimizing glitches. I write the review on the laptop the manufacturers give me to test. My reviews are long enough to give you a clear idea of how good the keyboard is by the time I finish the article.
Touch panel – Two separate buttons are preferred over a single rocker key. The buttons should also give good tactile feedback. Otherwise, you will have to use an external mouse. I reviewed the Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell some time ago and I didn’t like the single rocker button below the trackpad. There are many Asus laptop accessories available on the market that can be used as an alternative to the trackpad, but you will have to pay extra money for it. Asus laptop accessories are better than other competitors and come at a relatively lower price without compromising on quality.
Battery duration – Battery life is really important for travelers, but desktop replacement laptop users don’t care. Netbooks like Asus Eee PC 1101HA Seashell have a longer battery life. Larger 17-inch laptops last between 70 and 80 minutes. I do challenging battery drain tests in my labs while writing reviews because it’s really important.
