Commitment and Determination – What Makes you an Entrepreneur

Posted by admin

What makes you an entrepreneur?; This question is simple but very difficult to answer. For a long time, people have studied the science behind the entrepreneurial process, what drives a great entrepreneur, the things that make an ordinary person a job creator.

To answer this question, it is much better if we try to understand what is behind the entrepreneurial process. At the heart of every entrepreneurial process is the founder, the opportunity seeker, the creator and initiator, the leader, the problem solver and the motivator; the planner and keeper of vision and mission. Without this human energy, behavior, drive, and vitality, the best ideas, even when backed by an overabundance of resources and people, will fail, underperform, or simply never get off the ground. Brilliant fitness and athletic potential is not equal to the great athlete. The difference is invisible and intangible: commitment, tenacity and determination.

Commitment and determination are considered more important than any other factor that inspires an entrepreneur. It makes an entrepreneur able to overcome incredible obstacles and also greatly compensate for other weaknesses. Almost without exception, entrepreneurs live under extreme and constant pressure—to start their business, to stay alive, and to grow. A new business requires the highest priority of the entrepreneur’s time, emotion, patience and loyalty. The level of commitment of the entrepreneur can be measured in several ways: through the willingness to invest a substantial part of his net worth in the company, through the willingness to accept a reduction in salary because he will own a significant part of the company , and through the other great sacrifices in lifestyle and family circumstances. Clearly, commitment and determination often require personal sacrifice.

What you need to keep in mind is that the desire to win is never equal to the will to never give up. And this is actually a critical distinction. Many leading entrepreneurs say they really want to win, but only a few have the dogged tenacity and unwavering perseverance to achieve it. Just take the example of a young entrepreneur who made several phone calls but none were returned. He made a few more calls, but still, there was no answer. Over the next week, he made another series of calls that, once again, went unanswered. At that moment, what would you do? Would you keep trying or would you decide to go ahead and waste no more time? Only you can answer this question, and the answer will give you a clear picture of your level of persistence.

Entrepreneurs who successfully build new businesses seek to overcome obstacles, solve problems, and get the job done. They are disciplined, tenacious and persistent. They are able to engage and re-engage quickly. They love to win and they love to compete in anything. However, if the tasks are unsolvable, an entrepreneur will be the first person to give up than others. There is a fair view that while entrepreneurs are extremely persistent, they are also realistic in acknowledging what they can and cannot. They know where they can get help in solving a very difficult but necessary task.
