Yamaha R1 and R15: bad machines from Yamaha

Yamaha R1 and R 15 are two premium motorcycles manufactured by the Yamaha Motor Company.

The Yamaha R1, one of the most popular performance oriented motorcycles in India, was introduced in 1998. Recently the Yamaha R1 received some major changes and upgrades in terms of styling, mechanics and features.

Powered by a 998cc DOHC 4-cylinder in-line 4-stroke liquid-cooled engine producing a maximum power of 182.1 bhp at 12,500 rpm with a maximum torque of 115.5 Nm at 10,000 rpm, the Yamaha R1 is a motorcycle of great power. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Yamaha R1 is the first motorcycle to use a cross-plane crankshaft. The 6-speed gearbox has a slipper clutch. The bike can accelerate to 100 kmph in less than 3 seconds. The Yamaha R1 bike has an 18L capacity support fuel tank that offers a fuel reserve capacity of 1L.

The Yamaha R1 uses a dual 310mm disc with radially mounted forged 6-piston calipers at the front and a 220mm disc with single-piston caliper at the rear. The front tire is 120mm wide, while the rear is 190mm wide. The R1 comes with fully adjustable suspension and a 7-stage traction control system.

The Yamaha R1 is available in three colors: Matte Grey, Rapid Red and Team Yamaha Blue/White.

The Yamaha R1 returns a fuel economy of around 15 kmpl. The Yamaha R1 is available from Rs 15,60,183.

The competition comes from models like the Fireblade, ZX10R, GSX 1000R and the Superbikes in the Ducati range.

The Yamaha R15 is an entry-level performance-oriented Yamaha motorcycle that was introduced to the Indian market in 2008. The Yamaha R15 has sporty styling, which is derived from its older sister, the Yamaha R1.

Some of the features of the Yamaha R15 include deltabox frame, monocross suspension, aluminum swingarm, split seats, LED taillights, disc brakes and alloy wheels.

The Yamaha R15 is available in Racing Blue, Grid Gold, Raring Red and Invincible Black and gets a special black and gold edition that was on display at the 2014 Auto Expo.

The Yamaha R15 is powered by a 149.8cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder fuel-injected engine that produces a maximum power of 17hp at 8,500rpm with a maximum torque of 15Nm at 7,500rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Yamaha R15 motorcycle has a 12L capacity support fuel tank that offers a fuel reserve capacity of 1.2L.

Returns a fuel economy of 42 kmpl. The Yamaha R15 is priced at Rs 113,550.

This bike has to compete with other existing segments, namely the KTM Duke 200, Hero ZMR and CBR 150 R bike models.
