Posted by admin

The English language has experienced its greatest growth in the course of the last twenty years, thanks to the introduction of computers into our daily lives. The first decade of the 21st century will be well known for the exponential growth of the Internet and its impact on our language.

In just the last few years, social media has transformed the way we communicate. I thought it would be fun to bring up some of these terms here. My list features some of the less popular words that I think should have some credit for their creativity.

anonoblog: An anonymous author(s) blog site.

astroturfing: A false popular push to promote a product, service or idea.

collective collaboration: When an organization harnesses the efforts and skills of people outside the organization to offer volunteer content.

deciprocity: Saying or doing the wrong things that result in a chronic decline in friends and followers.

doocado: Losing your job as a result of your blog. Coined by the author of the popular site, Dooce, who was fired from her after venting about her company.

folksonomy: collaborative tagging or social indexing. The collective use of tags to categorize content.

SOB.: Successful and featured blogger (this definition is a vast improvement over the original).

Social capital: The benefits received from a positive reputation and strong relationships on social media.

Splog– Fake or spam blogs that are often used solely for the purpose of generating affiliate links and sales.

vlogging: Blog containing mainly video posts.
