Hero Xtreme – The Xtreme bike

Posted by admin

In an attempt to revive their popular 150cc offering, the Xtreme, Hero MotoCorp had released a facelifted model. Aimed at young people looking for a stylish and powerful motorcycle, does the Xtreme do justice to this factor? Let’s find out.

The Xtreme comes with a new headlight that has an updated sun visor. The LED taillight cluster has a new design. The design of the rear fender and grab bars has also changed. The blackened side fairings in the rear section accentuate the youth of the bike. The final can is painted in a matte finish. The design of the five double-spoke alloy wheels receives black paint.

The bike is available in five colors: Mercury Silver, Jazz Blue, Fire Red, Panther Black, and Magma Orange.

The instrument cluster is one of the best in class and is accented in silver and features an analog tachometer, digital speedometer, clock and fuel gauge. The console has a blue backlight. The sidestand indicator sits in the middle, while the other markers for high beam, side markers, neutral light, and a service due reminder are present on the sides. The font on the digital clock is easily readable.

A striking feature is the 12 V charger placed under the seat. By the way, the Xtreme is the only motorcycle in the 150cc motorcycle segment in India to have this feature.

The Xtreme uses the same tried and tested 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, producing 14.4PS of power at 8500rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 6500rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The 5 speed gearbox comes with a 1 down 4 up shifter, it is almost slippery and easy to use. Stopping power comes from a single 240mm disc brake at the front and an optional 220mm disc brake at the rear. The standard variant has a 130mm drum brake setup at the rear. It returns a decent fuel economy of 45-50 kmpl on average in the city and on highways.

The bike can reach 60 km/h in about 5.3 s, while reaching 100 km/h in 18.3 s.

The engine is powerful and smooth at high revs and can forcefully push the 145kg bike forward. The electric start system or AMI (Advanced Microprocessor Ignition) can start the engine while still maintaining jump start. The bike does not have an engine kill switch.

The 2014 Xtreme is available in five colors: black, red, silver, black-red and orange. The motorcycle competes in the highly competitive 150cc passenger segment that includes the Bajaj Pulsar 150, Suzuki GS150R and Honda CB Trigger.
