Top 5 Fantasy Tight Ends for 2011

Posted by admin

Picking fantasy tight ends is tough, so we’re going ahead and making it easy for you. We’ve run through all the numbers and featured 5 tight ends that can help your team get that extra boost it needs from an overlooked position. As always, be sure to check out our sleepers who should be available in later rounds of most fantasy drafts.

1. Antonio Gates – San Diego

Gates has been the gold standard for fantasy tight ends for several years. He puts up receiver numbers in a position where most fantasy owners don’t expect much production. Some say last year’s injury woes signaled a declining start for Gates, but even a drop in his numbers still puts him at the top of the fantasy tight end list.

2. Dallas Clark-Indianapolis

Dallas Clark spent most of last season on the IR and the Colts suffered for it. Manning couldn’t seem to find a dependable wide receiver like he had in Clark. He expects him to recover from the injury and for Manning to turn him into a player very early in the season.

3. Jason Witten-Dallas

Witten should return to his former form with Romo’s return to the Cowboys this summer. Witten was a favorite target for Romo and last year’s drop in stats proved it. His numbers may not return to levels from previous seasons, but they should be high enough to give me a good look at his draft.

4. Vernon Davis-San Francisco

Davis has slowly worked his way up the ranks of the best fantasy tight ends. Even with terrible quarterbacks throwing at him every season, his numbers have steadily improved. Look for those numbers to rise again this season, as he’s been used more and more within the 49ers’ offensive scheme.

5. Jermichael Finley-Green Bay

Finley was a highly touted fantasy tight end last year, but ended up missing most of the season due to injury. This year should be no different; Finley is a big part of the Packers’ offense and he hopes he and Rodgers are on the same page early this season.

Sleepers Brandon Pettigrew – Detroit

Pettigrew showed flashes of brilliance last season making key plays all over the field for Detroit. The problem is that he was splitting time with another tight end; Tony Scheffler. If he can establish himself as the Lions’ dominant tight end and get consistent quarterback play, Pettigrew can provide him with a decent fantasy option for little money.

Jimmy Graham – New Orleans

Graham is another developing tight end who began to find his place in New Orleans’ offense late in the season. If he becomes a reliable dumpster for Brees, he could start seeing a lot of balls coming his way. You still run into the problem of having to start a wide receiver on the Saints, a team that is known in the fantasy world for distributing the ball.
