Hero Glamor Vs Honda CB Unicorn – A strong competition between leaders

Posted by admin

Hero and Honda are two of the leading manufacturers of two-wheelers in India. Former partners, these companies have given the country two of the most popular bikes in the form of the Glamor and the Unicorn. As both companies are known for their excellent bikes, when they go head to head, buyers have a very difficult task to choose the best one.

A comparison between the two is attempted here, based on certain factors such as cost, engine specs, mileage, and other relevant features.

Cost – The fundamental factor that determines the purchase decision is the cost of the vehicle. If the cost of the bike exceeds the buyer’s budget, all other factors become irrelevant. Therefore, pricing becomes a complicated but important function for bicycle manufacturers. The Hero Glamor carries an ex-showroom price of INR 53,375/- compared to the INR 63,208/- cost of the CB Unicorn. As the price difference is around Rs 10,000, the balance is heavily tilted in favor of the less expensive Glamour.

Engine: Hero Glamor is powered by a 124.7cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, OHC single-cylinder engine capable of generating 9PS of power and 10.35Nm of torque. The Unicorn CB features a 149.1cc 4-stroke air-cooled top SI engine with 13.3hp and 1.3kg of torque. Clearly, the Unicorn is more powerful and faster than the Glamor.

Mileage – The Glamor returns a mileage of 50-55 kmpl, while the CB Unicorn offers a slightly higher mileage of 55-60 kmpl. However, the Hero Glamor comes with a slightly larger fuel tank capacity of 13.6 liters, compared to the 13 liters offered by the Honda Unicorn. Glamor has a top speed of 100 kmph while the Unicorn offers a top speed of 118 kmph. While the Glamor needs 7.3 seconds to reach the speed of 60 km/h from a standstill, the CB Unicorn needs just five seconds to reach the same speed.

Other Features: The Honda CB Unicorn is a taller, longer, and wider bike than the Glamor. It also has higher ground clearance compared to Glamor. The Hero Glamor offers telescopic hydraulic shocks at the front and swingarm with hydraulic shock at the rear. The CB Unicorn also offers a telescopic fork suspension system at the front, but mono suspension at the rear. Both the front and rear brakes on the Glamor are drum-type, while the CB Unicorn features a solid disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

To conclude, the Honda Unicorn seems to be a better vehicle in terms of engine power, mileage, speed, and other technologies. However, Glamor is considerably cheaper than the Unicorn.
