Exciting racing action

Kyle Busch and Toyota seem unstoppable. Last night, and so far this season, they have been unstoppable.

Last week, NASCAR required Toyota to make some changes to its engines to reduce their power. Non-Toyota drivers and owners felt Toyota must have an unfair advantage this season. The unfair advantage now seems to lie not with Toyota engines but with the strength of Joe Gibbs Racing. Although Busch did not qualify on the pole, he was second; he proceeded to lead 197 of 200 lapses. Unfair advantage? Perhaps other drivers and owners need to look in a mirror for why Busch and the entire JGR team are dominating this season.

Busch posted his sixth Nationwide Series victory this year. It was also the 14th victory this year for JGR. Busch now holds the record for the most combined wins in a season in all three NASCAR series with 15. With tonight’s win, Busch surpassed Kevin Harvick’s 14 wins in 2006.

Behind Busch was the Ford driven by Colin Braun for second place. Polesitter Braun had an impressive race, but he was no match for Busch. Third place went to Mike Bliss in a Chevrolet. Also driving a Chevrolet was fourth-place finisher Scott Wimmer, followed by fifth-place finisher Josh Wise in a Dodge.

Series leader Clint Bowyer had a disappointing night finishing 18th. There was no change in the series points standings until 14th. Many of the other drivers who were up in the standings also finished low on Saturday night. Bowyer leads the series by 173 points over second place Brad Keselowski. Third place is Carl Edwards, fourth is David Reutimann, and fifth is David Ragan.

The next race will be on August 2 in Canada. I wonder if NASCAR will require JGR to use only three wheels for that race to try to match the competition. If they do, don’t worry, JGR has been driving all year!
