Beat the stress of holiday shopping

Posted by admin

Everyone approaches the holiday season differently. Some live in fear of the whole shopping “experience”, while others boldly go where no one has gone before – they do all their shopping during the summer. The following testimonials are from five New Jersey residents, describing how each handled their own holiday shopping challenges.

Anne Gadsden handles Christmas shopping in the “new fashion.” She puts on a CD of classical music like Pachelbel’s Canon in D, connects to the Internet, and starts surfing. The Newark mother of three says, “I’ve already done the store thing and now it’s time for me to buy gifts for family members who don’t live in New Jersey. I visit Amazon and Buy.com; between the two companies, I usually find something I need. Plus, shipping is free if I spend at least $25 and that’s not hard to do.”

Tasha Crimson shops early. Very early. “I shop all summer long, from when we go to the coast after July 4th to Labor Day. That’s when I’m done. I don’t have to put up with the hassles, I shop at my own pace, and I don’t have to freeze on the run! from my car to the store!” the East Orange grandmother of eight chuckled.

In Wanaque, Bob Caprioti has his own style of shopping. But not. He just makes his wife pick up everything for her family, his family and his three children. “She knows that she hates shopping. Fortunately, Rita loves to shop; why not let her do what she wants to do and let me do what I want to do?” So Rita buys gifts for herself and marks them for Bob? “No, I won’t go that far. My mom loves to shop, so I go out with her to Willowbrook Mall and we find what I need for Rita. Mom knows what Rita likes and makes it as painless as possible for me.” .”

Fair Lawn’s Angela Rodriguez laughs when asked about her purchasing methods. “I don’t start shopping until the day after Christmas. My family is from Peru and we celebrate the Three Kings Festival when we get together in early January. We’re spread all over the place and it’s too hard to get together at Christmas. So, in Instead of buying ahead of time, I wait until after Christmas and get all the sales.” When asked what she does for Christmas, Angela replied, “I’m single and I work in New York. I hang out with friends and coworkers who are alone for the holidays. Then on New Year’s Day I fly to Florida for a week to be with my family. I ship everything ahead of time, so I don’t have to lug everything through the airport.”

Tamara Williams loves to shop, especially in the crowds. The Hackensack resident responded, “I do quite a bit in early December, but I don’t really get going until a few days before Christmas. The best prices can be found at that time and it feels more like Christmas.” When asked how close to Christmas she shops, Tamara replied, “Usually I don’t finish until Christmas Eve. One year, while I was working at Stern’s in the Bergen Mall, I left at 2 pm and started my shopping. When the store closed at 6 p.m. but not that late anymore!”
