2008 Pontiac G5 Review

Posted by admin

The 2008 Pontiac G5 is a reasonable choice for a small sporty coupe. It comes with impressive new features specifically regarding acceleration, running performance and fuel economy. Although it lacks exterior and interior refinements, this new model boasts powerful engines.

The Pontiac G5 ’08 model actually follows the pattern of the Chevrolet Cobalt coupe. Except for very minor differences in the exterior and interior designs, the two are almost the same. The G5 prides itself on its sporty profile and respectably powerful engines, all at a very affordable price. In addition, it is also a product of the “Built for Action” brand of General Motors.

The 2008 G5 is a compact sports coupe available in two versions, namely the base and the GT. The base G5 includes 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, full power accessories, and remote keyless entry. Plus, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, satellite radio and a CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack. To these, the GT version adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, a sport suspension, fog lamps, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, steering wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls. Meanwhile, excellent entertainment is provided by a Pioneer seven-speaker audio system. In addition, a six-CD changer, leather upholstery, heated front seats, moonroof and remote vehicle start are also available on both models. You can also personalize the Pontiac G5 by installing other accessories like 18-inch wheels, a cat-back exhaust system, custom-colored interior lighting, a high-mounted spoiler, and a ground-effects body package.

The base G5 is powered by a 2.2-liter inline-four making 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, a 2.4-liter engine that makes 141 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque powers the GT. Both models are connected to a standard five-speed manual transmission with the option of a four-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to safety, the GT has four-wheel antilock disc brakes, while the base G5 comes with rear drums. Full-length side curtain airbags are also standard.

The 2008 Pontiac G5 provides adequate power and provides a smooth ride. However, this may not be a very good choice for those looking for a thrilling experience behind the wheel because it lacks overall handling response and refinement.
